Help us count worms!

We are looking for volunteers to join us for a few hours to undertake the Big Bore Place Worm Count. This is a one-off family-friendly volunteering day, so perfect if you aren't looking for a regular commitment (and if you are, we can talk to you about that too!)

Why are we counting worms?
Earthworms help us to understand the health of the soil as they are sensitive to a variety of soil characteristics such as pH, waterlogging, compaction and organic matter. Their presence/absence and abundance help us to piece together an overall indication of the soil health across the farm, as well as allowing comparison between different areas. You'll learn about why earthworms are a vital part of the ecosystem and gain survey skills.

What's the plan?
Volunteers will be briefed on how to undertake a worm survey, and will carry out surveys across the farm, reporting their counts back. Counting worms is muddy, outdoor fun AND you're helping gather data to protect nature! Your counts will be included in our citizen science earthworm data, so by helping out, you'll be contributing to a site-wide Bore Place scientific study.

Come alone, or bring your family and introduce your children to the myriad benefits of volunteering - everyone is welcome! No experience necessary.
