Grab your walking boots for a guided walk around the Bore Place estate, learning to spot edible wild plants and tasting as you go. Foraging is an ancient skill which is becoming increasingly popular as a way to incorporate more fresh sustainable food into our diets and reconnect with nature at the same time. The shorter days don't mean a shortage of wild foods - the winter is a great time to forage for fungi, roots and seeds - you will be amazed at all the wonderful wild flavours and your guide will share ideas for different ways to enjoy them!

You'll learn identification skills and go home more confident in your spotting skills, and knowing how to safely and sustainably harvest some wild foods.

What to bring

  • Bottle of water - we will be tasting some wild flavours, some of which may be strong!
  • Suitable clothing and footwear- the course is fully outside and will go ahead despite the weather! Waterproofs, closed-toe shoes and long trousers are a must. Depending on the season, you may need waterproof boots, sunhat or suncream, umbrella or woolly hat. Whatever you need for an enjoyable day outdoors.
  • Notebook or camera - you may wish to jot down notes or take photos to jog your memory of all the information covered in the course.

  • Any tasting samples will be gluten free and dairy free. 
  • Walks vary in length, terrain and accessibility. Please contact us in advance if you have accessibility requirements.
  • The course will go ahead whatever the weather (except in electrical storms or high winds), so please come dressed and prepared for outdoor activities!

Your guide
Gemma Hindi MSc is a wild food guide and ethnobotanist, exploring our relationship to wild plants, trees and fungi through the food that we eat. She is an accredited site consultant, Forest School trainer, and certified FISC3 botanist who has delivered nature reconnection programmes for 20 years and foraging events since 2016. In 2023 she survived solely on wild food for 3 months for a research study called The Wildbiome Project. Gemma currently researches wild plant and fungi biodiversity, and will emphasise sustainable foraging methods.

Please note tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable to another event. If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else (please let us know the name and email address of the attendee), otherwise your ticket fee will be considered a donation to the Commonwork Trust.
