Citizen scientist volunteers wanted!

Bore Place is conducting its first BioBlitz and we'd love you to join us.

Join our onsite ecologist and a team of volunteer enthusiasts to find, identify and log different species at Bore Place. Explore the Bore Place estate and dairy farm to gather as much species data as possible in one day. This will generate valuable data that will help guide our conservation efforts in the future, and our mission to farm regeneratively.

We encourage you to head out independently onto the farm trails with a sweep net or binoculars, and there will be a chance to go on some guided species surveys with our team of enthusiasts. There will also be some child-friendly self-led activities such as following our orienteering trail, and nature-themed activity sheets and colouring.

What is citizen science? Citizen science is when members of the public voluntarily help with scientific research. In this case, we'll be recording all the animals, plants, and fungi we can identify on the farm.

What is a Bioblitz? A Bioblitz is a race against the clock to identify as many species as possible. Use spotter sheets and ID guides to figure out what you have seen and upload your findings to our data collection app or record on our survey sheets. No previous experience is necessary, and a team of enthusiasts will be on hand to help. If you have a special interest in a group of animals or plants and would like to volunteer as one of our enthusiasts for all or part of the day, please contact education@boreplace.org.

Tea and coffee will be available.

Please book a free ticket to help us have an idea of numbers, and so we can contact you regarding the event.

  • Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking boots.
  • Bring a picnic, we would love everyone to spend the day here!
  • Bring binoculars if you have them.
  • All equipment and ID guides will be provided.
  • Please remember, Bore Place is a working farm and there are a number of ponds onsite. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Bore Place is committed to surveying and monitoring species, aiming to enhance biodiversity through habitat improvement and land management. We provide opportunities for people to connect with nature through citizen science surveys and conservation volunteering programmes, school trips and overnight stays.
